Animal Bites (Dog Bites)
Animal bites (dog bites) are a very serious problem in Massachusetts . While all people are at risk of an animal attack (dog attack), children and elderly people are at the highest risk. Children are usually victims of animal attacks (dog attacks) because of the amount of time that they spend outside. Many features that draw children to a particular toy also excite animals. Some characteristics of toys that attract both children and animals include bight colors and high pitched sounds. According to data published by Massachusetts General Hospital, “approximately two million animal bites are estimated to occur annually in the United States . Of these, there are about three hundred thousand visits each year to emergency departments for animal bites mostly acquired from dogs or cats. It is estimated that dog bites account for sixty to ninety percent of bites followed by the bites of cats, rodents and a variety of other species including monkeys, raccoons, foxes, bats, minks and other wild animals... As a result of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, misplaced dogs and cats were a serious source of animal bites to rescue workers." Free Case Evaluation
