An inferior vena cava (IVC) filter is a small cage-like medical device that can be inserted by doctors to stop dangerous blood clots from traveling to the blood vessels of the lungs. Their structure allows them to catch fragments of clots that form in the legs or pelvis before these blockages run the risk of causing a pulmonary embolism (PE). These metal filters are surgically implanted in patients who cannot tolerate blood thinners or have seen little success with those drugs.
Risperdal (risperidone) is an antipsychotic drug prescribed by doctors for the treatment of certain mental and mood disorders. This powerful drug is approved for patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability associated with autism.
However, Johnson & Johnson has been accused of aggressively marketing for doctors to prescribe this drug without full disclosure of its dangerous side effects. To date, they have been forced to pay billions of dollars in criminal penalties, fines, and lawsuit settlements related to personal injury to patients. Risperdal’s unfavorable side effects can include gynecomastia (breast growth in males), premature lactation in young girls, permanent movement disorders, onset or worsening of diabetes, and even an increased risk of death in the elderly. These conditions are linked to not only physical consequences, but also severe emotional trauma, especially in youth and the elderly.
If you or a loved one has experienced any serious side effects while taking Risperdal, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact our dedicated legal team at Iannella & Mummolo to learn more.
